When you are interested in adopting a cat
Come visit Java Whiskers and meet the cats, you can book a time here.
Register your interest directly by sending your application for adoption by filling out the form.
The Scratching Post Manager will review all emails.
If you are selected as a potential adopter you will then be contacted by The Scratching Post for a virtual home check within two weeks of your application.
This will be done via video call and will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
During the call, you will be asked to show us around your home as well as answer some further questions. You will also be asked for proof of address eg council tax bill.
Please beware that the cats might not be ready to move immediately after adoption is accepted.
The Scratching Post will inform you about each cat’s specific timeline if you are approved to take the next step in the adoption process.
Your adoption application is approved.
Pick-up will take place at the Java Whiskers Café by appointment agreed upon with Java Whiskers and after you’ve paid the adoption fee to The Scratching Post.
Pick-up days are Mon – Fri.
You will get a text message from a team member to set up a time and date.
On adoption, you will be provided with the cat’s vaccination card, chip registration forms to be completed and one month’s Pet Plan insurance.
The adoption fee is £100 per cat.
This covers microchip, spaying, the first set of vaccinations, veterinarian check and worming & flea treatment.
Included as a gift from us you will get a beautiful name tag.
There will be more than applications than the café is housing. Therefore, it is inevitable that some applications may not be successful for each cat. If you are unsuccessful, you may wish to be kept on file for future cats, or rehome directly from The Scratching Post, where many other cats are waiting to be adopted.
By registering your interest in a cat, you are in acceptance that Java Whiskers and The Scratching Post reserve the right to make any final choice of an adopter. These decisions will be made in the very best interests of the cat.
When rehoming one or two of our cats, the most important aspect is finding the right match for both the cats and the owners.
